For centuries, skinny crosscountry skis have been a force of evolution, weeding out those not blessed with balance, coordination or the reflexes of a Norwegian speedfreak. To hear the old-timers tell it, ancient trails were choked with carnage and the woodland creatures deafened by the sound of skier meeting tree, over and over and over again.
With Salomon's Snowscape, however, that era is over. The Snowscape 8 is shorter than your old skis, which makes it-gasp-maneuverable. And when you can maneuver, you don't bite so much bark. And as we're all staunch environmentalists here at the Wildy, we think that's a good thing.
Now, usually, less ski means less grip, but the Snowscape comes with an optimized camber which maximizes ground contact on the kick. Combine that camber with Salomon's G2 waxless grip technology and you've got a ski that moves. Add the S-cut sidecut which places the narrowest cut next to the binding and you've got a ski that turns. Slap a pretty blue topsheet on that and you've got a bargain that will take you out into the wild and back again, in style.
